Directions from Porto Airport or the South (Coimbra, Lisbon)

1. Take direction – A3 Braga/Valenca – the first sign is on your left & difficult to see so drive carefully after leaving the airport
2. Continue to follow signs A3 Braga
3. Follow direction Braga / Valenca – go through toll-gate / take ticket
4. After 45Km - take Exit nr.8 - Braga Celeiros/Geres/Guimaraes– pay toll
5. Follow directions  Braga Sul/Celeiros
    – then pick up signs for Braga Este / N103 / Chaves (ignore the first blue Motorway sign for Chaves)
6. Follow road for 4/5 km (you will pass a large store Continente - Minho Shopping Centre - on right hand side)
7. 1 km after you pass Continente keep over to the right hand side & before the underpass – take slip road to right (direction Chaves) and come up onto the side of the roundabout - turn right and follow road – direction Chaves – move out onto dual carriageway & stay over to the left and go down the underpass (you can just see McDonalds on left hand side) and follow road.
8. Cross over three small roundabouts – keep going straight at all times - at top of hill you will come to the fourth roundabout - keep to the right at roundabout – always follow direction Povoa de Lanhosa / Chaves
9. Follow road for 15 kms – direction Povoa de Lanhosa ⁄ Chaves (N101)
10. You will come to a roundabout with large gold balls (look like old sea-mines) - you will see sign for Povoa de Lanhoso on the roundabout – town is to the right – but go straight across and continue to follow the road to Chaves
11. Stay on the main road for 800 metres further
12. Take next left signposted N205 to Amares
13. Follow the road for 3km (going down-hill with lots of bends) Go through Geraz do Minho (village) – very small
14. After about 400m you will pass a restaurant on left hand side down off the road – "Calva" – you will only see a sign and the top of the restaurant
15. After another 100m you will see on right hand side a "Valvolene" sign (small garage & car sales forecourt)
16. 50 m further (hidden small road in the bend) turn left here – the road is named Santa Tecla but it is a very small sign
17. Casa da Borboleta is the first house you see on the left hand side – park outside front door
18. If you miss the turning there is a turnaround place 400m further down the road
19. The journey time from Porto airport to the house takes approx 1 hour 15 mins

Driving - From Spain or the North

If you are driving from Spain it is best to drive via Burgos, Palencia and Benavente to Orense. En route to Orense. take Exit 10 near Verin to Portugal. This road leads to Chaves and there it is a direct road to Braga.

When you reach the N205 to Amares – turn right and follow the instructions as above.

Transportation

In case you are not coming by car we can arrange transport to and from the airport at Porto.

For four people and average luggage this will cost about €75 

Alternatively, there is a fast train service from both Lisbon and Porto into Braga. Lisbon takes about 3.5 hours and Porto only 30 minutes. There is a regular taxi service from Braga station or we can arrange to have you met and driven to the house.
