GENERAL INFORMATION: Farmhouse Rental
Quinta de Penas is a recently restored, 17th century Minho farm set in its own 50-acre vineyard, 15km from the city of Braga, the former religious capital of Portugal.
The Quinta was previously a large working farm and winery, sitting at the top of the Geraz valley with wonderful views of the surrounding farms and vineyards. The estate sits at the foot of the mountains, forming the border of the beautiful Gerez National Park, Portugal's largest nature reserve.
The Quinta is made up of four large individual houses surrounded by an outer wall forming a central courtyard – with each house having its own private setting and entrance. The houses have been renovated to a very high modern standard and are very spacious – however a lot of care has been taken to ensure that the original ambience and uniqueness of the house has been maintained
The positioning of the houses and the old thick granite walls ensure that a pleasant temperature in the houses is maintained all year round – even in the height of the summer.
The Quinta is no longer a working farm but it is set in an active farming community and guests have the opportunity to really see what life was like in the Minho region a hundred years or more ago – a short stroll into the valley and you can see that little has really changed. However, although the Quinta is surrounded by farming activity the environment is peaceful and tranquil – except on fiesta days, which are quite frequent in the summer months!
The Quinta's location is very pleasant, surrounded by open land and vineyards and the houses gardens and orchards have been designed to ensure maximum privacy and safety, especially for younger children.
